Welcome to Fern Pond.

This is a lovely pond surrounded by ferns, Maple trees, Oak trees and Buckeye trees. The foliage is dense. Fern pond is also surrounded by steep hillsides giving it a nestled feeling. It is always serene. This pond reminds me of Psalm 23.

“The LORD is my shepherd, I shall not want. He maketh me lie down in green pastures, he leadeth me beside still waters. He restoreth my soul. He leadeth me in the paths of righteousness, for his name’s sake. Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for thou art with me. Thy rod and thy staff they comfort me. Thou preparest a table before me, in the presence of mine enemies. Thou anointest my head with oil. My cup runneth over. Surely, goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life. And I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever.”

Reverend Dr. William H. McNabb once said, “There have been quite a few times in my 22 years of being a minister that I’ve been in a hospital room, standing beside the bed of a man or a woman who is dying. It’s right near the end. And the family says to me, ‘There is no response anymore, he is not even responding to his wife’s voice. He is in a deep coma.’ And then I will lean low, very low, close to his ear, and I will begin reciting the words of Psalm 23. ‘The Lord is my shepherd, I shall not want. He makes me lie down…’  And then the lips, the dried cracked lips begin to move. And the mouth will begin to form those words and to say them with me, and they come from somewhere very deep.”

When the rains come, Fern pond spills over like a cup filled with water at a slight tilt and begins a meandering river that flows all the way down to the valley floor below. It’s as if I can hear and feel the words, “my cup runneth over.” When times feel uncertain, I find it comforting to find a place that brings a sense of solace, and remind myself that there is a Higher Power helping us, looking after us, and unconditionally loving us. So when times feel uncertain for you, let this image of Fern pond comfort you, and help you walk confidently through the dark valleys of life and feel calm in the face of uncertainty.

Lesson: You are not alone. The power of prayer is always with you.
